N-GEN nitrogen generators are used to extract the available nitrogen in the atmospheric air and separate it from other gases. Nitrogen generation systems fall into two broad categories: Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) and Membrane technologies nitrogen generators.

During the PSA process, compressed air enters a molecular sieve bed, which inhibits nitrogen that passes through as a product gas, but adsorbs other gases.

The sieve releases the adsorbed gases to the atmosphere when ambient pressure restores. Subsequently, the bed will eject nitrogen before fresh compressed air enters for a new production cycle.

In order to ensure a constant product flow, N-GEN nitrogen generators use two molecular sieve beds, which alternatively switch between the adsorption and regeneration phases.

Production of industrial nitrogen with Membrane technology is accomplished by pushing compressed air through polymer fibers. As the compressed air moves through the membrane, nitrogen molecules are separated from other molecules: Tiny holes in the membrane fibers allow oxygen to pass through and return to the atmosphere as waste gas. Relatively large nitrogen molecules remain “captured” in the microscopic holes.
The production method depends on required purity, volume and consumption regime.
