Why aluminium pipework rather than black steel
Pipework is the part people most often try to save on, and it is exactly where the most money is lost in operation.
Black steel corrodes from the inside. Rust particles travel down the line and damage pneumatic tools and valves, while the rough internal surface increases pressure drop. An aluminium system is smooth inside, does not corrode, and is assembled with fittings instead of welds, which means significantly fewer potential leak points.
The cost of leaks is real: in a typical system 20 to 30 percent of the air produced is simply lost, and that goes straight onto the electricity bill. An aluminium line is also far easier to extend, since adding a new point does not require cutting and welding the line.
The result
The plant received an air system with minimal losses and a line that is easy to expand.
