Air Purity Configurator (ISO 8573-1)

Select an industry or ISO class — and get the optimal system chain: only the components your class truly needs. No more, no less.

— Or specify ISO 8573-1 class directly —

What is ISO 8573-1 and why should you care?

ISO 8573-1 is the international standard for compressed air purity. It evaluates air by three parameters — solid particles : humidity : oil — assigning a class to each. For example, “1:4:1” means: highest purity particles, dew point +3°C, and oil not exceeding 0.01 mg/m³. Food production, pharmaceuticals, painting, laser cutting, PSA generators — each requires its own class, and an incorrectly configured system either spoils products or wastes money on unnecessary equipment.

“Nothing more, nothing less” — why this principle is important

Two extremes are equally common: a system missing a link (e.g., no inline filter after the adsorber, leading to adsorbent dust in the product) — and a system with too much money invested (e.g., an oil-free compressor where a conventional screw compressor + proper filtration achieves the same class at half the price). The configurator above is built precisely on this balance: choose an industry or class — and get a chain where every link is justified, including the exact locations for automatic condensate drains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an oil-free compressor?

Only if your process requires Class 0 — complete exclusion of oil (medical/breathing air, some pharmaceutical processes). Oil Class 1 (≤0.01 mg/m³) can be achieved with a conventional screw compressor and multi-stage filtration — this is a much more economical way.

Refrigeration or adsorption dryer?

Dew point +3°C and above — a refrigeration dryer is perfectly sufficient. −20°C, −40°C, or −70°C — only an adsorption dryer, preferably preceded by a refrigeration dryer, so the adsorbent works 3-4 times longer. For precise performance calculations, use our Dryer Selection Calculator.

How do I know which class I need?

Start with the industry preset in the configurator above — typical requirements are already built-in. The exact class is often specified in your equipment’s (e.g., laser, PSA generator) passport. If in doubt, contact us — IESCO engineers will clarify the class and select the system for you, free of charge.
