Why compressor spare parts and oil matter
A screw compressor is a machine that runs 24/7, and 80% of its service life depends on correct maintenance. Oil, air filter, oil filter and separator — these four consumables are replaced every 2,000–4,000 hours and they decide whether the airend lasts 40,000 hours or 15,000. A genuine or OEM-quality part costs 1–2% of the compressor's value; replacing the airend costs 40–60%.
IESCO's Tbilisi warehouse always stocks spare parts and oils for every brand we sell and service: EKOMAK, FINI, Ingersoll Rand, ALMiG, RENNER, ATMOS, VORTEX, IES, GEVAC — plus matching equivalents for many other brands.
Which parts are replaced regularly?
| Item | Interval (hours) | What it does | What happens if it is not replaced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screw compressor oil | 2,000–4,000 (synthetic 6,000–8,000) | lubricates, cools and seals the rotor pair | oxidation, varnish, airend overheating and seizure |
| Air (intake) filter | 2,000 (1,000 in dusty environments) | protects the airend from dust | pressure drop, +3–5% energy, airend wear |
| Oil filter | 2,000–4,000 | captures wear particles from the oil | bearing and rotor damage |
| Oil separator | 4,000–8,000 | separates oil from the air | oil in the network, oil consumption, pressure drop |
| Belts, coupling | 4,000–8,000 / check every 1,000 | transmit torque from motor to airend | slip, vibration, loss of capacity |
| Motor and airend bearings | 20,000–40,000 | support the rotors | noise, vibration, airend destruction |
| Thermostat, intake and minimum-pressure valves | 8,000–16,000 (repair kit) | control temperature and pressure | overheating, oil backflow, idling problems |
Compressor oil — which one and why?
A screw compressor needs dedicated compressor oil only: it resists oxidation and varnish formation at 80–100 °C, separates water quickly and does not foam. Engine or hydraulic oil damages the airend within a few thousand hours.
- Mineral — 2,000–3,000 hours, standard conditions, the most economical.
- Semi-synthetic — 4,000 hours, hot workshops and continuous duty.
- Synthetic (PAO/ester) — 6,000–8,000 hours, high temperature, heavy duty, less varnish; food-grade (H1) versions for food production.
- Vacuum pump oil — low vapour pressure, for vacuum pumps — compressor oil will not do here.
When changing oil type (e.g. mineral to synthetic) the system must be flushed — oils of different base stocks do not mix.
Genuine, OEM or aftermarket?
Genuine — the manufacturer's branded part, mandatory for compressors under warranty. OEM-quality equivalent — filters and separators from the same factories (Mann+Hummel, Donaldson, Sotras) without the manufacturer's logo, 30–50% cheaper, same specification. Cheap parts of unknown origin — risk: wrong pore size, separator paper bursting, oil in the network. IESCO offers only genuine and verified OEM quality, each part matched to the compressor model and serial number.

Frequently asked questions about spare parts and oils
How often should screw compressor oil be changed?
Mineral — every 2,000–3,000 hours, semi-synthetic — 4,000, synthetic — 6,000–8,000 hours, but at least once a year. In hot, dusty workshops the interval is shorter. The oil is changed together with the oil filter.
Can engine or hydraulic oil be used in a compressor?
No. Engine oil contains additives that form varnish in the airend and clog the separator; hydraulic oil cannot separate water. The result is airend overheating and seizure within a few thousand hours. Compressor oil only.
What does it mean when oil comes out with the air?
Most often the separator has reached the end of its life or the oil scavenge line is blocked; the oil level may also be too high or the oil of the wrong type. Replacing the separator on time (4,000–8,000 h) prevents this problem.
Do I need a genuine part or will an equivalent do?
Under warranty — genuine. After the warranty an OEM-quality equivalent (Mann+Hummel, Donaldson, Sotras) is fully reliable and 30–50% cheaper. Cheap filters and separators of unknown origin will cost you far more in airend repairs.
Which brands do you stock parts for?
EKOMAK, FINI, Ingersoll Rand, ALMiG, RENNER, ATMOS, VORTEX, IES, GEVAC — from stock; OEM equivalents for Atlas Copco, Kaeser, BOGE, ALUP, CompAir and others — from stock or within 1–2 weeks.
How do I order a part?
Send us the compressor brand, model and serial number (a photo of the nameplate is enough) — we will find the exact part number and send a price the same day. ☎ +995 32 206 01 00, warehouse at 52 Avchala St.
