An oxygen system in a clinic runs 24 hours a day, and every year leaves its mark: the adsorbent tires, the compressor accumulates wear, the filters first lose efficiency and then start creating pressure drop. The INMATEC oxygen plant at Feromed Clinic had reached exactly that stage, and the clinic commissioned IESCO to carry out a complete capital repair of the system.
The system had been installed by another supplier. For us that changes nothing: IESCO’s service department works on oxygen generators and compressors of any brand.
The challenge
The system had to be brought back to factory parameters. Not by patching a single unit, but by restoring the whole chain, from the compressor to the oxygen receiver, with minimal disruption to the clinic’s operation.
What we did
- Complete replacement of the zeolite in the generator’s adsorption columns. Zeolite is the heart of a PSA generator: it is what holds back nitrogen and lets oxygen through. Exhausted zeolite first drops the purity, then the output.
- Capital overhaul of the EKO 30 screw compressor: full restoration of the screw block, bearings, seals and oil system. The compressor is the only moving energy source in the system, and its condition determines everything else.
- Repair of the air dryer. Dry air is vital for zeolite: moisture damages the adsorbent irreversibly. New zeolite without a working dryer would have been ruined again within months.
- Replacement of the line filters along the whole air path, so that oil, particles and condensate reach neither the zeolite nor the patient.
- Start-up, purity and pressure checks, and return of the system to full operating mode.
Why a complete overhaul rather than a partial one
In an oxygen system the units depend on each other. Replacing only the zeolite while keeping a worn compressor and a weak dryer is money thrown away: moisture and oil will quickly kill the new adsorbent as well. That is why we carried out the capital repair in one cycle, across the whole chain. It is a one-off cost that extends the life of the system by years and postpones the purchase of a new generator.
The result
The clinic received a practically renewed oxygen plant: new adsorbent, a fully overhauled compressor and properly working air treatment. The system is back at factory parameters and the clinic continues to run on its own oxygen.
